My name is Megan Still, and my journey into cat rescue started with a box. Ever since I was a little girl, I was the kid bringing home stray kittens and cats. My parents always said no to the cats, but they did allow dogs, so I grew up a proud dog mom. A few years ago, everything changed. I was walking my three dogs with my neighbor Dawn when we noticed a box sitting in front of a church. You know that feeling when you see something like that and immediately know it can’t be good. There was a small hole in the side of the box, and through it I could see five tiny kittens crying. It was July. The heat was unbearable. We rushed to get them water and started frantically calling rescues until we found one willing to help. Those kittens were eventually adopted into loving homes, but I never stopped thinking about them. I wanted to keep one myself, but my husband said no. What I didn’t realize at the time was that those kittens had already changed my life. I started volunteering with local rescues, learning everything I could. Eventually, I helped start a new rescue dedicated entirely to cats. Lincoln County is overflowing with homeless cats and kittens, and the need was much greater than any of us imagined. Since then, I’ve crawled under houses to rescue frightened cats. I’ve learned how to trap, foster, bottle-feed, socialize kittens, and advocate for animals that have no voice. I’ve spent countless hours promoting adoptions, fundraising, educating the public, and helping families find their perfect companions. People often ask why I do it. The answer is simple. It was the box. Five tiny kittens abandoned in the summer heat changed my soul forever. What started as a single rescue became a calling. Today, I am more than a dog mom. I am a foster, a trapper, a rescuer, and a dedicated animal advocate committed to helping every cat and kitten I can. Because sometimes all it takes is one box to change a life—and in my case, it changed mine. ❤️🐾
